Roland ten Klooster
Packaging Designer/Consultant & Professor Packaging Design & Management
University Of Twente / Plato product
Roland ten Klooster graduated as MSc in Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology in 1987 on the design of a plastic packaging for beer for Heineken. He worked for Heineken Technical Services for one year and at Formaat, an agency in product development. In 1991 he founded Plato product consultants together with Ton van Veen, an agency that became a specialist in structural packaging design which is working for multinationals and SME’s. Activities of the agency are organization of thematic workshops, feasibility studies, cost-saving projects, concept development, integration of sustainability into packaging design and all the stages that run up to the actual concept realization. Project management, product integration management, support in court trials, advice for UNEP/EC on Ecodesign in Asia are other examples. After developing several tools for solving packaging problems writing a PhD thesis would seem to be a logical sequel. He defended the thesis in 2002 successfully. Since 2006 he has the chair Packaging Design and Management at University of Twente. In this period he is involved in over 80 master graduation and 25 bachelor theses on packaging. Five researchers have been working under his responsibility. At the moment one researcher is finishing his PhD.
